In Memoriam
Tóth Andrásné (†2020)
Aunt Jolika was a founding member of our association, who arrived in Luxembourg in 1956, in the final days following the suppression of the revolution. She was a mother of two sons. After the establishment of the association, she actively participated in community life, helping to organize our events and especially contributing to the promotion of traditional Hungarian cuisine by enriching our gatherings with delicious homemade dishes. May she rest in peace.
On this page, we wish to preserve and respectfully commemorate the memory of the deceased members of our association. All those who worked with us, supported our community, and enriched our lives with their presence will forever remain part of our history. Honoring their memory and remembering the moments we shared together continue to inspire us.
Várkonyi Péter (†2025)
Péter worked for many years at the Court of Justice of the European Union until his retirement. He regularly attended the events of the Munkácsy Association and actively supported the work of our community. After retiring, he moved to Switzerland, where he lived until his passing. He died in November 2025 following a short but serious illness. May he rest in peace.
Balogh László (†2022)
We remember László Balogh, our community’s beloved “Uncle Laci,” who passed away suddenly and tragically at the age of 83 in February 2022. As a Hungarian of 1956 and a member of the National Guard, he arrived in Luxembourg and remained grateful throughout his life to the country and people who welcomed him and his fellow compatriots. He was an active and dedicated member of the Hungarian community in Luxembourg: he regularly attended our events, helped at the Hungarian stand of the International Bazaar, participated in church services and masses, and was also frequently active on our online community platforms. He was someone who loved to tell stories, share anecdotes, and sing, building a bridge between past and present, Hungary and Luxembourg through his stories. We preserve his memory with respect and love; the example of his life—his loyalty, gratitude, and dedication to the community—remains with us. May he rest in peace.
The Munkácsy Association has, since its founding in 2001, preserved, nurtured, and promoted Hungarian culture.
